Our Story

Monnig Global

Monnig Global provides Business Management and Operational Services for all of the Monnig family of businesses.

Bob Monnig founded Monnig Industries in 1960 to support the burgeoning steel fabrication industry in mid-Missouri to eliminate the need to transport product back and forth to Kansas City or St. Louis. Initially, Monnig focused on cooling towers and miscellaneous structures, but over time began serving the recreational (boat docks), transportation (rail and highway), agriculture, energy, and many other industries. Capacity was increased from one to two kettles in the mid 1980s and again in 2006 to help rebuild after hurricane Katrina.

We are a family business through and through with John Monnig still representing the second generation. Jason Monnig and Jeremiah Johnson represent the third. Tony Monnig, Tom Monnig, Tim Monnig, and Ron Monnig each contributed in key ways over the years as management/ownership.

Benefits of Galvanizing over Zinc Epoxy Coating

Galvanizing and zinc epoxy coating are two commonly used methods for protecting metals from corrosion. Each method offers its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Here are some of the benefits of galvanizing over zinc epoxy coating:

  1. Superior Corrosion Protection: Galvanizing provides excellent corrosion resistance due to the formation of a dense and adherent layer of zinc on the metal surface. This zinc layer acts as a sacrificial barrier, protecting the underlying steel or iron from corrosion even in harsh environments.
  2. Longevity: Galvanized coatings have a long service life and can protect metals for several decades without requiring maintenance. The thick zinc layer provides durability and robustness against various environmental conditions.
  3. Full Coverage: Galvanizing provides complete coverage, including hard-to-reach areas and corners, ensuring comprehensive protection for the entire metal surface. On the other hand, zinc epoxy coatings may have difficulties reaching certain complex geometries, leading to potential weak spots.
  4. Cost-Effectiveness: In terms of cost per year of protection, galvanizing is often more economical than zinc epoxy coating. While the initial cost of galvanizing may be higher, its long-term protection and low maintenance requirements offset the higher upfront investment.
  5. Environmentally Friendly: Galvanizing is a sustainable choice as it involves a simple process with minimal waste generation. The zinc used for galvanizing is also a recyclable material, making it environmentally friendly.
  6. Faster Application: Galvanizing is a faster process compared to applying zinc epoxy coatings. The galvanizing process involves dipping the metal into a molten zinc bath, which ensures quick and uniform coverage.
  7. High-Temperature Resistance: Galvanized coatings offer better performance in high-temperature environments, making them suitable for applications where the metal may be subjected to elevated temperatures.
  8. No Drying or Curing Time: Once galvanized, the metal is immediately ready for use without any drying or curing time. Zinc epoxy coatings require time for curing and reaching their full protective properties.

It’s essential to note that the choice between galvanizing and zinc epoxy coating depends on the specific application, the type of metal being protected, and the environmental conditions the metal will be exposed to. Both methods have their strengths, and the selection should be based on a thorough evaluation of the requirements and constraints of the project.
